They weren’t very happy about NATO expanding into that vacuum, but they trusted us (I trusted us too). They allowed us to avoid a ground war in NATO by cutting a deal which would have the Serbian troops leave, so long as Kosovo’s status didn’t change without UN Security Council approval (so that they could veto it on the Serb’s behalf). In turn, we violated a written agreement by recognizing Kosovo. Since then I have stopped trusting the West. Perhaps I was naive for ever trusting them, but I’ve never seen something like that before. I’ve also never seen a US president claim fraudulent elections and try to stay in power. Honestly - I’m shocked to the core and we really need to see if we can do something with Russia as it may end up being Russia that is the defender of the free world one day, with America disappearing up its own ass. Oh yeah - and when Putin reached out to NATO to join, he was effectively snubbed by “Lord” Robertson. If I had been in Robertson’s shoes I would have kissed Putin’s feet as the basis of further discussion (noting that we can’t really let Russia into NATO by normal standards - they don’t meet the normal standards - so we need to work out something else).

Regardless - can we convince them? Well, I managed to convince one Russian, but he was actually honest. There aren’t many honest people anywhere in the world. Search for sabodog 2291. And I’ve asked him to speak to other Russians. Although he wasn’t able to turn any of them, he did admit that they heard him out (like I predicted), and once he had one up against a wall and the guy said “well what would you do?” - an opportunity to give an alternative - and my friend didn’t give him anything. I’ve asked my friend to do more, but he says that others are making the argument just as good as he can. A combination of him underselling himself and him being too busy supporting his family. And note that he can’t even convince his own father. So there is reason to be disillusioned.

Yes it would be good if Russians disappeared. Note that they’re this way after centuries of abuse. My Russian friend (who flipped sides) thinks it dates back to Ivan the Terrible. To me I’m surprised that these things are able to last that long. Similar to how feminazis like to complain that they’ve allegedly been abused for millennia, so that explains any failings of women today. Certainly I am looking for any sign of my 3 year old daughter being told there is some limit to what she can have or do due to her gender. I haven’t found anything so far. And if I do find something it still has to go up against any counter-argument I can bring to bear.
